Woodcarving Family Background

My great grandfather, Elder E. Weader (pictured above), started woodcarving after he retired from 42 years of being a school teacher. His passion and hobby has passed down through the generations. Elder was asked when he was retiring if he had a hobby. At the time, he did not have any hobbies; but by chance he became aware of an opening of a woodcarving class. He was skeptical at first, but after he attended the first class, he realized how enjoyable woodcarving can be; and "the rest is history".

My grandfather Edwin L. Weader has also done very detailed wood carvings.  One of his carvings is shown of cattails.  He enjoys doing nature, relief carvings, owls, dogwood flowers, and duck decoys.

Drawing on the legacy of my great-grandfather, our work is

a celebration of craftsmanship and skill passed down through generations.  Picking up the "knife" in May of 2016, the tools

that Andrew is using hold a special place in his heart since they

were Elder's tools.  It helps Andrew to remember his great

grandfather and the time spent in his wood shop in his basement

it is a time Andrew will cherishes and thankful for that time with him.

Andrew spent many days with his grandfather Edwin, as well in his

wood shop watching him work on the latest duck, owl or even his

Bonsai plants.

Andrew uses traditional hand woodcarving tools to create items that are truly one of a kind.

Many other family members have done different types of wood working, but I have a love for wood carving (planning, imagining, shaping and finishing). It is relaxing and enjoyable.

My hope is that everyone enjoys my carvings as much as I enjoy doing them.  This is helping to keep not only the family tradition going, but the memories alive.
